Rosenthal Family Dentistry Three Children Brushing Their Teeth

We heard several times growing up that the first impression is often the last. That’s why it is important in how we speak, present ourselves, and more. Every person wants to be engraved in somebody’s remembrance of their personality, obviously, not for their poor oral hygiene! That’s why one of the more common questions that our dental office in Sunrise, FL will get from our patients is how they can get rid of their bad breath.

In this article, the friendly team at Rosenthal Family Dentistry provide some tips that you can employ in trying to treat bad breath.

The Breath Test

Bad breath in medical terms is called Halitosis. It is the most common issue that every single individual faced in their lives. Some people may not even realize that they’re breathing out foul odor as long as they become used to it. But then again sometimes you’re just fearful that your breath stinks when it doesn’t, that condition is known as halitophobia.

You might unaware, but there is a breath test to figure out that you’re stinking or not. Simply lick the wrist, and after a couple of seconds, just smell it. In case if it smells foul, then it means you’re a victim of bad breath or halitosis. In order to resolve this problem first, you have to find out what is leading your foul breath. However, poor oral hygiene, a coated tongue from plaque, and a dental cavity are a couple of non-medical causes. Medically, diabetes, sinusitis, malnutrition, dry mouth, and gastrointestinal problems cause a person’s breath to stink.

How Can I Get Rid Of My Bad Breath?

Fortunately, people who are facing the issue of bad breath no need to worry about it, because it can be easily tackled! While we would recommend to schedule with your nearest dentist to determine a personal plan for your oral health,  here are some easy and homemade natural cures that you & your family can use for treating  bad breath:

Consume more Yogurt
Several studies have shown that regular consumption of sugarless, plain yogurt keeps bad breath at bay. Ingesting yogurt minimize the level of hydrogen sulfide is a compound found on the tongue, which leads to bad breath.
Stay Hydrated
You need to stay hydrated all day to make sure that the in-built cleaning system functions smoothly. Eat citrus juices or fruits that enable flushing out of the toxins.
Citrus Juices and Fruits
In order to prevent dryness in the mouth, consume citrus fruits like lemon, grapefruit, and orange, which enhance the production of saliva. The acidity level in lemons hinders the development of bacteria, and its strong scent fragrance conceals your mouth’s bad odor.
Practice Good Oral Hygiene
You must visit your dentist twice a year in order to maintain good oral health. Furthermore, make a habit of brushing your teeth twice a day and floss at least once in a day. Try to rinse the mouth with saltwater or peppermint mouthwashes. The most important piece of advice is you need to change your brush after every two or three months.

After following these effective and homemade natural cures, you will get rid of bad breath. But in case if your bad breath persists then, you need to consult your dentist as soon as possible. Treating your bad breath through traditional tricks like usage of mouthwash isn’t a permanent solution. For a permanent solution, you need to change your routines for sure.

The proper technique for brushing your teeth depends on the type of toothbrush you use. Effective brushing helps maintain healthy teeth. Oral hygiene eliminates plaque and fights against the appearance of cavities, gum disease. The technique of brushing teeth is done by taking care of the teeth of the top and bottom separately. Here are other useful details for brushing your teeth properly.

General Techniques

Starting from the age of 8, brushing, the upper and lower teeth must be performed separately. It is important to clean the faces of the cheek side teeth, tongue side, successively, then continue the session with the top faces. The recommended rhythms for effective brushing are two times a day, and each brushing takes 2 minutes. To brush your teeth properly, you attack the upper surface of the teeth by moving back and forth. When brushing the outer and inner faces, the toothbrush should be tilted about 45 ° at the junction between the gingiva and the tooth. It is possible to remove the dental plaque by rolling 2 to 3 times per tooth.

Electric Toothbrush Techniques

The advantage of oscillating electric toothbrushes is that the device removes more dental plates than a manual model. This modern device also reduces the risk of gingivitis in the short and long term. People who use these modern brushes benefit from a less restrictive toothbrush technique than a traditional toothbrush. Indeed, it is no longer necessary to provide the cleaning action, because it is more than to guide the brush along the dental surfaces.

Should I Brush Hard?

When brushing your teeth, it is useless to bother, because exaggeration is as harmful as the negligence of oral hygiene. Thus, to prevent dental diseases, it will control its brushing habits. To prevent the formation of dental caries, it is recommended to check the condition of your teeth at least once a year by making an appointment at the dentist. People who brush their teeth too often and too aggressively may lose their gums. To better control the pressure, those who clean their teeth intensively must use an electric toothbrush.

What Are Some Common Cosmetic Dental Treatments?

Some of the more common cosmetic dental treatements that patients can get at their dentist include the following:

Teeth Whitening
One of the most crucial features of a great smile is having shiny white teeth. Besides, adding confidence to your personality, white teeth indicate appositive oral health.

For this reason, teeth whitening is the most common cosmetic dental treatment. Also, its low cost and ease of availability make it an attractive choke for people seeking to improve their smile.

The most effective results are achieved by inhouse treatments. However, there are plenty of home remedies available that promise to whiten your teeth. These remedies may whiten your teeth, but they are helpful to a certain degree. To achieve long-lasting and promising results, in-house treatments are the right option.

Depending on how much you want to spend and the type of treatment you avail, you can lighten your teeth up to nine shades.
Porcelain Veneers
Despite the popularity of teeth whitening treatment, not everyone gets their desired results from whitening procedures. In some cases, individuals have stained teeth that cannot be treated with a simple whitening procedure.

This is where porcelain veneers are helpful.

A porcelain shell is designed perfectly for the shape of your teeth. These porcelain shells cover the worn enamel, chips, cracks, and uneven alignment of your teeth. The dentists use a dental adhesive to apply these porcelain shells to the front part of your teeth.
Dental Implants

Dental implants are typically used to replace a broken or lost tooth. They are the ideal option of restorative dentistry, promising highest quality, strength, longevity, and durability.

Primarily, implants comprise of artificial dental roots, usually of titanium. These artificial roots are implanted into our jaws and fixed at a ta point where the implant meets a bone. This surgical procedure is known as osseointegration. The surgeon then places a crown on top of the implant, which works like a tooth replacement.

The implanted tooth is indistinguishable from the rest of the surrounding teeth. The new tooth becomes secured when the surrounding tissues and bone fuse with it.

Bio-clear/ Bonding
Bio-clear is a dental that fixes discolored, chipped, decayed, and damaged teeth. A teeth putty that mimics the coloration of your teeth is applied to the discolored or damaged teeth to improve the appearance of your smile.

The resin is artistically molded to match the shape of your teeth and applied to give you whiter and straighter teeth. Also, the procedure helps the patients to fix the gap between their teeth.

Our Sunrise dental office does offer traditional dental bonding for our patients. Please call us if you have any questions!

Oral Hygiene Tips With Orthodontics – Part 1 Of 2

Tooth care is essential to ensure that your mouth is in good health. But achieving it becomes a more complicated task when you are undergoing some orthodontic treatment. As your dental advisors, we recommend you follow these oral hygiene tips with orthodontics so that you keep your smile healthy. The post will discuss orthodontic treatments and dental care routines during these times in a two-part series, broken down for your ease.

Most used orthodontic treatments

There are different orthodontic treatments. Each one possesses characteristics that adapt to the requirements of the patients by providing them with the results they want regarding the best positioning of their teeth.

Some of the most popular and effective methods or treatments today are:

  • The metal brackets: It is a fixed treatment that is made of stainless-steel. It is placed on the outside of the teeth.
  • Incognito orthodontics: In this case the brackets are placed on the inside of the teeth.
  • Invisalign: It consists of a transparent and removable aligner that is changed from time to time to modify the position of the teeth.

Depending on the case and its severity, the orthodontist will recommend the best treatment to improve the position of your teeth and bite.

Oral hygiene tips with orthodontics

After putting on any of the above methods you should know how to maintain your oral hygiene. You will have to follow certain procedures and include in your routine some elements that will facilitate the process. But this will depend on whether your orthodontics is removable or fixed. If you can remove it and replace it freely as with the invisalign treatment, you just have to comply with a proper dental hygiene routine. And also, properly clean your orthodontic appliance independently. But if you have braces or a fixed orthodontic treatment you should take into account the following tips:

How to brush your teeth with braces?

If you have fixed orthodontics or braces, you should keep in mind that food scraps will accumulate in them very easily. This is why you must follow the following tips when brushing your teeth.

  • Get an interproximal or interdental toothbrush. These are ideal for cleaning between brackets.
  • Your regular toothbrush should have soft bristles.
  • Change your brush every three to four months.
  • Use fluoride toothpaste. This in addition to strengthening your teeth minimizes the sensitivity that orthodontics can produce.
  • Brush in sections. Divide your mouth into 4 parts, left, right, upper and lower. This way you make sure to clean each one of them.
  • Pay close attention to the section around and in the center of the braces.
  • When using your interproximal brush, insert it from the top of the wire and then from the bottom.

How to floss with braces?

One way to complete the cleaning of a fixed orthodontic appliance is to floss. But many people don’t know the right way to do it.

Once you have taken an approximate amount of 40 centimeters of dental floss you should follow the following steps.

  • Floss between the top of the tooth and the wire of the braces.
  • With a movement of saw passes the dental floss gently through the sides of each tooth.
  • Check with your orthodontist if you need to use any specific type of thread.
  • At the end of the process you can use antiseptic mouthwash to rinse your mouth. We recommend those that contain chlorhexidine.

It is essential that you maintain a strict oral cleaning routine, especially if you have braces. Brush at least three times a day and after each meal. This will help you so that during the orthodontic treatment there is no complication due to caries or gum infection.
